Thanks to all who attended our screening of The Path: Beyond the Physical on April 16. One of the researchers interviewed in the film was nuclear physicist Thomas W. Campbell, who spoke about transitioning from one reality frame to another when we die. This month, as the first in a series of programs exploring the relationship between lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience, we invite attendees to participate in a live videoconference with Campbell via Skype. Questions to be explored in the interview and series include:

What is the relationship between lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience (OBE)?
Do the experiences overlap in any way, and how are they different?
What is happening in the mind and body during a lucid dream versus an OBE?
What do lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience reveal about the nature of consciousness and the nature of reality?
Can most people learn to explore these states? If so, how?
Are there any potential dangers or safety issues in exploring lucid dreams and OBEs? What type of precautions should be taken?
What are the potential benefits of lucid dreaming and OBE for the individual, society, and humanity?

Thomas Warren Campbell, Jr., graduated in 1966 with honors and majors in both mathematics and physics from Bethany College in West Virgina, received a master’s degree in physics from Purdue University in 1968. and commenced work toward a PhD at the University of Virginia. He left before completing his doctorate to begin a career as a professional physicist, working primarily in the context of US missile defense systems with the Space and Missile Defense Command, the Missile Defense Agency, and NASA.

In the early 1970s, Campbell began researching altered states of consciousness with Bob Monroe (Journeys Out Of The Body, Far Journeys, and The Ultimate Journey) at what would become the Monroe Institute, where he and a few others were instrumental in getting the laboratory up and running. These early drug-free consciousness pioneers helped design experiments, developed the technology for creating specific altered states, and were the main subjects of study (guinea pigs) all at the same time. Campbell has been exploring and experimenting with the subjective and objective mind ever since. For the past thirty years, he has focused on scientifically exploring the properties, boundaries, and abilities of consciousness.

Most recently Campbell has been involved in extensive travel and speaking, providing live presentations explaining and expanding upon his trilogy of My Big TOE. Hi there….I lucid dream constantly and I’ve never had a conversation with anyone else that does. My mother seems to be the only one who truly is interested in it and so she told me to contact Tom Campbell. I’ve landed here after some brief internet searching. This afternoon was the first time I had full on conversations with people in my dreams about where I was. I’ts common of me to go up to dream characters and ask them what it is like to be in my dream but I never really got a reply until a couple weeks ago when a woman told me that she wasn’t in my dream as if i was being a little self centered. Perhaps that was a clue to my subconcious that lead to me approaching characters differently and being able to have full conversations with them. It was one woman who found me today and I asked if we were on earth and she said no. She said we were on a planet or in a dimension that was far far away and then she said that we were in a universe that is perpedicular to a parallel universe of ours. I asked if they had figured out how to conquer death yet and her and another man I was talking to said no. I went on to talk about nano bots to them but then me and my woman guide left. I asked the man if he wanted to come along but was relieved when he said no like I didn’t really have the energy for it. She said after we left that I needed to be careful what I say to people and that he was actually a farmer and not an aware techy like I thought he was. I could go on but I actually need to get back to studying for my very own anatomy final…..

I also failed to say that today I had the ability to turn off my phone from vibrating and go right back to my dream, or obe…..I was kinda under the impression that lucid dreams and obes are the same thing just initiated differently, but maybe I’m wrong. I was defiinitely getting fuzzy and then leaving my body concsciously.

Sounds like you have some vivid lucid dreams! I’ve always been fascinated about the connection between lucid dreaming and OBE’s. Some people believe they are one in the same while others make clear distinctions between them. I’ve experienced very vivid lucid dreams in the past, but only fleeting OBE’s. As you probably noticed, we’re about to kick-off a series of presentations & discussions about this topic. I’m assuming that you’re not living in Austin, Texas. If you were, we have a bunch of associated “Consciousness Community” groups that include many folks who are fascinated by both lucid dreams and OBE’s, and who love to discuss them. The Skype presentations, including the one next week with Tom Campbell, will not be webcast live, but should be available later on our site in edited video form.
