Mind, Brain and Hypnosis – Part 2 Terry Mikiten, Ph.D. Dr. Mikiten will describe some of the phenomenology of hypnosis and offer answers to questions like… What is hypnosis? How does it work, and what are its brain mechanisms? How does the design of the brain help understand hypnosis? Is hypnosis a unique set of phenomena, or do some aspects of it resemble other mental or brain states? About the author: Terry Mikiten, Ph.D., is a neuroscientist who has spent more than 40 years researching and teaching about the brain and nervous system. A graduate of New York University and The Albert Einstein College of Medicine, he also did neuroscience research at Mount Sinai Hospital and Columbia University in New York City. Arriving at the UT Medical School in San Antonio in 1969, he did electrophysiological work on synaptic plasticity and the mechanisms of EEG and epilepsy. During part of this period he served as Assistant Director of the Texas branch of the Epilepsy Foundation.In parallel with his biological interests,
