Join us on February 18 for the fourth presentation in our series exploring the relationship between lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience. Robert Peterson, who has extensive documented experience with both lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience, will share his views as well as techniques he has found useful to attain them. Peterson will be joining us in person at the Austin Center for Spiritual Living and will be available to respond to your questions.
Both lucid dreams and out-of-body experiences can be life-changing. Waking up in your dreams or leaving the body and consciously visiting other locations in real time provide unique opportunities for personal growth and profound spiritual awakenings as well as fascinating experiences that confirm the multi-dimensional nature of reality.
During the presentation, Peterson will explore the following questions in addition to your own:
- What is the relationship between lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience (OBE)?
- Do the experiences overlap in any way, and how are they different?
- What is happening in the mind and body during a lucid dream versus an OBE?
- What do lucid dreaming and out-of-body experience reveal about the nature of consciousness and the nature of reality?
- Can most people learn to explore these states? If so, how?
- Are there any potential dangers or safety issues in exploring lucid dreams and OBEs? What type of precautions should be taken?
- What are the potential benefits of lucid dreaming and OBE for the individual, society, and humanity?

About Robert Peterson
Robert “Bob” Peterson has been studying and inducing out-of-body experiences and psychic experiences since graduating from high school in 1979. While attending the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology, where he earned a B.S. in computer science, he became more proficient at out-of-body exploration and kept detailed journals of his experiences. At the same time, he did volunteer work for a student-based organization called the Minnesota Society for Parapsychological Research (MSPR), which gave him experience as a “Ghost Buster” before the movie made the subject popular.
Since college, Peterson has had a very successful career in systems level computer programming. In 1987, while working as a contract programmer at the IBM plant in Rochester, Minnesota, he compiled his experiences and journals into his first book, Out of Body Experiences: How to have them and what to expect (Hampton Roads Publishing, 1997), which has been available online for free since 1996. His second book, Lessons Out of the Body: A Journal of Spiritual Growth and Out-of-Body Travel, was published in 2001. Recent work includes The Gospel According to Mike (2011), a novel, and Answers Within: How to use your inner voice for wisdom, spirituality and psychic awareness (2012). Peterson currently lives near Brainerd, Minnesota, with his wife and soulmate, Kathy, and is visiting Austin for the winter.
